All dogs love to groom and should have a daily routine to keep them in tip-top shape. But, do you know your dog's grooming habits? Here are some ideas to help you brush your dog or groom your puppy.

You should groom your dog at least twice per week, if possible three times a week. This will help keep your dog's coat in proper condition. Be sure to brush your dog on a regular basis as well.

* Crate training. Crate training your dog is a great way to get him in shape. Crate training also teaches your dog how to not jump on you when you go out and your dog learns that jumping is not allowed.

* Matting out. If your dog does not like to be touched by strangers, this is the first step in getting him to like being touched. Many dogs just do not like being touched in any way and when they see the owner or another person touching them, they simply refuse to interact with that person.

* Showing affection. Hugging is a big part of grooming and you can often get your dog to relax his neck. Grooming is an excellent way to bond with your dog.

* Grooming helps your dog. It is very important that you give your dog his daily grooming in order to help him stay in good shape. Sometimes, though, we forget that dogs need grooming more than we do.

* The bad groomer. If you neglect your dog grooming routine, he may not feel good about himself and the end result is unhealthy.

* Grooming while you're busy. When you are on the go, you are unable to give your dog all the attention he needs.

* Grooming while you're sleeping. If you try to get too much done at once, you can end up doing more harm than good to your dog.

* Grooming while you're cooking. If you cook for your family, there is no time for dog grooming. Keep your dog at home and give him his grooming when he is at his best.

* Grooming in warm weather. Dogs who groom on a regular basis tend to look their best.
